How She Found Me

Emotionally moving and often dark and mysterious, the story centres on two travellers falling in love against a backdrop of the rich plant life of Marrakesh.

I gathered a selection of images of Moroccan plants to inform the design, with the story set in and amongst the rich plant life of Marrakesh.
As one of Morocco’s native flowers, I noticed how the bright Oleander blooms stood out against a variety of greens, which inspired a visual concept around the contrast between the bright pink, associated with love and passion, flourishing against a moodier green palette that reflected the dark and mysterious elements of the story.
Sketches show exploration of initial ideas for theme and composition.
With the arch as a prominent architectural feature in Marrakesh, I looked at featuring this in some form, potentially with plants forming the shape, a decorative border, or a subtle reference in the type.
I chose the hands reaching through the plants as the image that best captured the discovery of romance that the story centres, keeping a subtle reference to the arch within the letterforms of the title.
